Report from the South London Family Festival 3rd June 2017

South London Family Festival 3rd June 2017

Games, music and dance was the focus of the Family Festival celebration on Saturday 3rd June. The combined efforts of FFWPU, WFWP and UPF brought together a good crowd of people of all ages.

‘Gordian’s Knot’ brought a lot of fun and laughter, as did ‘Tie the Tie’ and ‘Family Feuds’. Our young people were masters in leading the games and getting people involved.

The games were interspersed with dance, poem, song and musical performances, from the youngest 8 years old to 70 years old. Our MC David Coombs did a wonderful job in managing the programme and getting across the main message of the afternoon: the importance of the family in all our different cultures.

6 couples were recognized for their commitment to marriage and family. All shared a little secret that has helped them grow their relationship and their heart of gratitude to each other. The 12year old daughter of one couple testified to the love her parents have for each other and the unity in their family. It was beautiful to see.

We concluded the evening with a wonderful Japanese Drum Dance performed by our Japanese sisters under the guidance of Nao Nishikawa and a raffle in support of IRFF and a next Family Festival.

No event is complete without a good meal which we all enjoyed. People left in a happy mood looking forward to the next event.
